What’s coming in version 1.1?
Version 1.1 is waiting for App Store review and isn’t available yet. Once it’s approved, it adds current values with Get Value, sorting by purchase price or current value, icons made from your own photos (with automatic coin alignment, adjustable frames, outline tracing for shaped coins and optional background removal), a full-screen photo viewer with key photos and on-device enhancement, Country of Origin, bigger iPhone Portfolio rows, and smoother Live Prices.
Where do prices come from?
Without an account, Bullion Keeper uses free public price sources. They update regularly but may be delayed. For hourly rates and price history charts, connect your own free metalpriceapi.com account: open Settings › Live Price Data, tap Get an API key at metalpriceapi.com (the page opens inside the app), paste your key, then tap Test. Set how often prices refresh in Settings: by hand, every 15 or 30 minutes, hourly or every 6 hours.
Why can’t I see copper or rhodium prices?
Turn on Fetch Copper Price or Fetch Rhodium in Settings › Metals. Copper comes free from the public source, but a free metalpriceapi.com plan doesn’t include it. Rhodium needs a paid metalpriceapi.com plan. You can still record copper and rhodium holdings at any time; they’re valued at your purchase price until a live price is available.
How do I record what a holding is worth today?
Coming in version 1.1. Open the holding and find Current Value. Type in a value, or tap Get Value. For bullion, Get Value estimates the melt value from today’s spot price. Then choose whether your totals use the purchase price or the current value. Holdings without a recorded value use the live estimate and are marked “est.”
How does Get Value work for coins?
Coming in version 1.1. On iPhone, iPad and Mac with Apple Intelligence turned on (iOS 26 or macOS 26 or later), Bullion Keeper identifies your coin on your device from its details, never its photos or serial number. It then opens recent eBay sold listings for your region and the Numista catalogue. Other devices get the same searches from the coin’s details. Bullion Keeper never sets a price for you: check the listings, then type in the value you settle on.
How do I sort my portfolio by value?
Coming in version 1.1. On iPhone, tap the sort button on the Portfolio tab and choose Purchase Price or Current Value, high to low or low to high. Holdings without a current value always go last. On iPad and Mac, tap a column header.
How do I make an icon from my own photo?
Coming in version 1.1. Edit a holding, tap Holding Icon, then Add Custom Icons. You can import several photos at once or take a photo. Coins are lined up in the frame automatically; drag or pinch to fine-tune, or tap Auto-Align to start again. Tap Frame Shape & Size to choose a circle, oval or rectangle and set its width and height, or tap Fit to Coin. Choose the coin shape (Round, Rectangle or Other) so the frame suits it. Bars can also use a bar-style icon in the metal’s colour.
Can I remove the background from an icon?
Coming in version 1.1. Yes. Turn on Remove background on the Position Icon screen or the Preview Icon screen. The coin is cut out along its edge on your device and placed on a see-through background, shown as a checkerboard. For shaped coins, choose the Other shape and Bullion Keeper traces the outline. If a cut-out doesn’t work, you get the normal crop and a short note.
Can I straighten or fix a crooked photo?
Coming in version 1.1. Yes. Before cropping an icon, use Rotate & Perspective to rotate, straighten and correct the perspective of the photo. Undo Adjustments puts it back.
How do photos work?
Add up to 6 photos per holding from your library or camera, or drag them onto a row on Mac. Tap a photo to view it full screen. Coming in version 1.1: pinch-to-zoom, key photos, and Remove Background and Enhance on your device. Each edit is saved as a new copy, so the original is always kept, and Settings › Photos › Enhance All Photos enhances everything at once.
What is Country of Origin?
Coming in version 1.1. A field under Mint in Bullion Details that records where a coin or bar was made. Type a country or pick one from the searchable list; older names like USSR also work. To show it on iPhone Portfolio rows, turn it on in Settings › Portfolio Display. On Mac it’s a Country column. It’s included in PDF reports, CSV and Excel exports, and backups, and spreadsheet imports read headings like Country, Origin and Made in.
Where does my portfolio live?
On your devices. Holdings and photos sync automatically through your own private iCloud on every device signed in to the same Apple Account; there’s nothing to turn on. Code 1 Studios never sees it, and there are no developer servers involved. For an extra safety net, use Settings › Storage & iCloud › Upload to iCloud.
Can I import my existing spreadsheet?
Yes. Use Settings › Import › Import from Spreadsheet (CSV, Excel or Numbers), or Paste Text to bring in a list from Apple Notes. You can also share text or images to Bullion Keeper from other apps. With AI-Assisted Import on, rows the usual matching can’t read get a second look from Apple Intelligence, on your device. Undo Last Import reverses the most recent import.
Can I export my holdings?
Yes. Settings › Export & Print can export CSV or Excel, print or save a PDF report (price history, holdings, photos, or all three), or send a plain-text summary to Notes. Settings › Backup › Export Backup saves every holding, including photos, to one file you can restore later on any device.
How do I change currency?
Settings › Currencies. Choose a primary currency for totals and main values, and a secondary currency shown alongside. Bullion Keeper supports 20 currencies, including AUD, USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, NZD and JPY.
Can I lock the app?
Yes. Turn on App Lock in Settings › Security. Bullion Keeper then asks for Face ID, Touch ID or Optic ID, with your device passcode as backup, each time you return to it. The app never stores a passcode of its own.
Do you support crypto or paper metal (ETFs)?
Not currently. Bullion Keeper is specifically about physical bullion — coins, bars, rounds — because that’s the market the app was built for. Paper metals are a different asset class with different risks.
Where do I delete my account or data?
There is no account — Bullion Keeper never needs a sign-in. To delete everything, use Settings › Danger Zone › Erase All Data. This removes every holding and photo from all your devices that share the same iCloud account, so export a backup first if you might want it again. To remove a metalpriceapi.com key, clear it in Settings › Live Price Data.
What’s in the pipeline?
Apple Watch, widgets and longer price history are on the list. Roadmap moves at paramedic-hours pace — usually a release every 4–6 weeks. Got a request? Email it in.
